Lisa R. Veasman handles complex litigation and class actions in US federal and California state courts, with an emphasis on healthcare and ERISA welfare benefit plan litigation, commercial disputes, unfair competition, consumer protection and false advertising claims. She represents large health insurance companies, a national dialysis provider, national and global banks, broker dealers, and automobile manufacturers. Lisa has represented clients through all phases of litigation and arbitration.
As part of her healthcare practice, Lisa was an integral member of the legal team that secured summary judgment for a health plan facing class action claims related to excessive premiums. She also played a key role in securing dismissal of class action allegations against a health plan in California concerning its utilization review practices for mental health treatment. She has also helped achieve favorable results in class and representative actions for health insurers and health plans, and dismissals in federal breach of contract and foreclosure related claims brought against a financial services client.
Lisa is a member of the firm’s Class Action Working Group, and has experience representing clients in consumer class actions, health care class actions, and mortgage servicing and foreclosure related class actions.
Lisa works extensively on a wide range of pro bono matters. She was part of a team that obtained a significant class action settlement for Los Angeles County’s most destitute residents. This settlement resulted in major reforms to the county’s General Relief program, a key program supporting those in extreme need.
In law school, Lisa interned for the California Department of Justice, Attorney General's Office in the Criminal Appellate Division and served as the editor in chief for the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal.
Secured summary judgment for a health plan in class action involving claims of unfair business practices and fraud related to allegations of excessive premiums, which was upheld on appeal.
Secured dismissal of ERISA claims for a health insurer in dispute with surgery center alleging improper reduction or denial of payment due to provider’s “fee-forgiveness” activities.

Representing a leading global health services company in nationwide class action challenging pharmaceutical benefits practices under ERISA and RICO.
Representing a managed services organization and California health plans in various litigations and arbitrations regarding reimbursement of hospital services.
Represented a Medi-Cal health plan in a damages re-trial relating to determining the reasonable and customary value of services rendered by a non-contracted hospital. Case settled on favorable terms.
Represented a health plan in a class action involving claims of unfair business practices, false advertising, and violations of California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act in connection with alleged narrow networks of providers for health plans compliant with the Affordable Care Act. Case settled on favorable terms.
Represented a health plan and health insurer in a representative action filed by the Los Angeles City Attorney alleging claims for violations California's Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law, based on rescission of member policies. Case settled on favorable terms.
Represented a New Mexico group of medical providers in arbitration regarding breach of contract claims and alleged improper marketing and advertising.
Represented an insurer, health plan, and utilization management services company in two actions brought by a hospital involving claims of negligent misrepresentation, fraud, and breach of contract related to the denial of claims under an exclusion in an employer-sponsored plan. Cases settled on favorable terms.
Representation of a broker dealer in several cases in both federal and state courts involving alleged securities fraud related to auction rate securities.
